OUR INSTRUCTORS
Dean

My name is Dean Fiedler.

I grew up in Walla Walla, Washington. My parents, older brother, and sister were all skiers and when I was 4 years old my mother decided she was tired of being stuck in the lodge with me. Learning to ski that young has its advantages - one being I don't actually remember anything about the process. I raced in the Junior Racing Program at Spout Springs and started teaching there in 1974.
I attended college at the University of Montana in Missoula on a partial ski racing scholarship. During that time I coached for the Little Grizzly Race Team and also taught skiing for the University of Montana. I graduated with a degree in business.
After a short stint teaching skiing in Colorado I moved to Sandpoint during the winter of 1981 where I was hired at Schweitzer as a junior race coach, ski instructor, and bartender. Since then, through the many winters spent at Schweitzer, I have held positions as the Junior Racing Coach Supervisor, Assistant Ski School Director, and most recently as a weekend supervisor for the ski school. In my other life I am the project manager for a development company at Priest Lake.
I am currently certified as a Level III instructor. Other levels of certification I have held in the past are USSCA Level II Coach and Divisional Clinic Leader.
My goal for my Nice Turns Group is to create a non-threatening yet challenging, and most of all FUN learning environment.
