Carving

Carving demonstrated in slow motion on gentle terrain. Notice that the turns are initiated by the tipping of the skis onto the new edges. There is no active turning or pivoting of the skis. The skis turn in the new direction because they follow the curvature of the ski edges, not by active turning of the skis. Notice also that the skis are tipped onto the new edges before the fall line and that both skis are tipped simultaneously (note the parallel position of the lower legs). The skis continue in a round path, the tails following the tips, leaving clean fine tracks in the snow with minimal or no skidding.
