Carved traverses on one ski are a good drill for stance, balance and edge control. Note that the body maintains an athletic stance with the arms forward for balance, the ankles flexed into the front of the boots and the body angulated at the hips allowing edging of the little toe edge of the uphill ski to create a carving turn in an uphill direction. Make certain that the lifted downhill ski stays parallel to the snow or tipped forward since an elevated ski tip indicates your weight is back, out of balance. Maintain the edged and carving uphill ski to prevent sideways sliding. This drill is important for learning edge control of the inside ski during a turn.
